I love the folks a Comic-Con international.  Every year, at both Comic-Con and Wonder Con, they have special guests.  Most are stellar artists and writers that you are familiar with, and then they throw a bone and include a few lower profile folks that they feel should get more recognition. www.comic-con.org/wca/2013/spe…  Well guess what?  This year, I'm one of those folks!  So if you find yourself at Wonder Con in Anaheim Ca. March 29th -31st, come on over and say hello.  Yelena and I will be at booth #1109.  And if you can stand more of my babbling, please come to the Spotlight on Jason Palmer wonderconanaheim2013.sched.org… panel that they are putting on at 5:30 on Saturday, Room 213. In the meantime, let me know what, if anything, you'd like to hear about, and maybe come up with a question for the Q & A. Thank you, and thanks to Comic-Con International for giving some love back.

Well I think I'm finally done! (although I've thought this before and I was wrong) I started work on the Indy blu ray package art waaay back in March of 2010. There would be a few busy weeks or months then the whole thing would submerge again for a while and then rear it's head, usually at inopportune times, capsizing other assignments, plans and projects.  It was a lot of fun drawing Indiana Jones, but this was tough. Rewarding, but really tough. Big thanks to my wife for putting up with this project that turned our life upside down time and again.

I hesitate to even mention that I worked on the project, because the art surely will not look in the final product like what I created, and, which was in the end, rushed.  The cover especially does not represent my work. (as you can see in the link below)  It's bits and pieces from several covers that are combined by other people and tucked behind the Richard Amsel Indiana from the original 1981 poster, but inside there is plenty of original artwork done by me. Hopefully it will print true to what I produced.  We will see in September I guess.  I love the character and this franchise and it's been an honor to work on it.  It's also been a big deal to me because Drew Struzan, my mentor is thee Indiana Jones artist.  And several of my friends, Hugh Fleming, Mark Raats, Adam Hughes and Trevor Grove are great artists who've created the best Indy art, this side of Struzan, ever created for the franchise, have been very encouraging over the years I've worked on the project.

Hey some of you came to my booth at the Phoenix Comic Con for this year's exclusive, and noticed that I'm not at the booth and there's no exclusive. Well I'm busy wrapping up a project, and should be there Saturday. The heavy workload also means no exclusive this year. They are a lot of fun and I regret that I couldn't do it this year. And I really appreciate all of you who asked about this year's print, sorry to let you down. When you see what I've been working on, hopefully you'll understand. In the meantime, if you're there stop by our 1323/1422 say hello to my beautiful, long suffering wife who's holding down the fort.

Sorry TNG

Apologies to those who've been asking about the progress on the TNG art for the Calgary Expo reunion. Other projects I had been working on popped up needing additions revisions etc.  So unfortunately I wasn't able to finish it.   I had a design I really liked, and was coming along nicely and I was having big fun with it. Too bad.  I will have this year's media guest print which will feature most of the other guests.  Hope to see you there!

Back to TNG!

It was just a year or so after I started working as a professional Illustrator that I got my first Star Trek assignments.  For this I owe big thanks to my friend Jerome Moore jerome-k-moore.deviantart.com/ who had the gig of creating Star Trek covers for DC comics.  Jerome produced some of the finest Star Trek art ever during his run -check out his DA page if you don't believe me.  Jerome introduced me to his editor Bob Greenberger, I showed him my work, including a ST: The Next Generation portfolio piece that I had done, and I was in the club! It was the 25th anniversary of Star Trek, so there were a few special project covers that Bob assigned to me. Before I knew it, I was was doing art for original crew Trek and TNG.  I was on Paramount's recommended artists list, so I kept busy with collectables as well as covers. I got to visit the TNG set several times as well as attend the series wrap party on the Paramount lot.  Big fun.

Now it's the 25th anniversary of Star Trek: The Next Generation, and I'm doing a piece for the occasion.  I just started it and will have it ready for the TNG reunion at the Calgary Comics expo in two weeks. www.calgaryexpo.com/tng-expose… I haven't done a major TNG piece in about 15 years, and I'm having big fun coming back to this show that was a big part of my life.
